What we do

Mission

We transform Toronto's laneways into lively, beautiful green spaces. By partnering with communities, enhancing climate resilience, and advocating for laneways as essential urban public spaces, we're making our city more resilient, healthier, and safer.

Vision

To transform Toronto laneways into vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable urban spaces that foster social cohesion, enhance climate resilience, and boost neighbourhood economic growth.

Services

The Laneway Project works with the City of Toronto, residents, BIAs, councillors, developers, businesses, and other collaborators on revitalizations, activations, events, laneway research studies and advocacy.

We're currently developing an exciting new approach to laneway revitalization, set to launch in January 2025. Stay tuned for updates by following us on social media and subscribing to our newsletter.

Values

Our work is guided by the following core principles:

Community Centered

Our projects are community-driven and led, designed to foster deeper connections among neighbours. By engaging community in every step, we create revitalized spaces that reflect local needs and build stronger, more vibrant communities.

Welcoming, Safe, and Inclusive Spaces

We work closely with residents and neighborhood groups to create spaces that are inviting and inclusive. By enhancing elements like lighting and other thoughtful design interventions, we transform areas into welcoming, safer environments where everyone feels comfortable and connected.

Climate Resilience

We prioritize climate resilience in our revitalizations by expanding the urban tree canopy, mitigating flooding through sustainable design, harvesting rainwater, and establishing pollinator gardens—all to create greener, more resilient neighborhoods.

Arts, Culture, and Economic Development

By partnering with local artists, we bring beauty and vitality to laneways through stunning murals. Our events and markets further enrich these spaces, supporting local economies and celebrating the unique culture of each community.
