EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Laneway Project (TLP) is seeking an accomplished Executive Director (ED) with a distinctive set of skills to lead our dynamic organization. The ED will play a pivotal role in realizing our mission and vision while strategically navigating day-to-day operations.

Beyond typical leadership responsibilities, this role places significant emphasis on entrepreneurial and fundraising expertise to cultivate sustainable revenue streams. The ideal candidate should be an enthusiastic professional dedicated to vibrant communities, public art, and city development.

What type of experience should I have?

These are some of the things we would like you to bring to the table:

  • A strong track record of management experience in the non-profit sector / for-profit and/or government sector (preference is a track record in the non-profit sector).

  • A degree in urban planning, policy administration, urban design, or relevant experience and education.

  • Expertise in governance, board interactions, and volunteer management.

  • Strong relationship-building skills, particularly with nonprofit organizations, City councillor's offices, and Business Improvement Areas (BIAs).

  • Exceptional public speaking skills and confidence in dealing with the media.

  • A comprehensive understanding of public policy.

  • Proficiency in representing TLP professionally in various settings.

  • The ability to develop sound project cost budgets.

  • Competence in organizing and executing special project programming.

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

  • A track record of advancing organizations and implementing metrics for improvement, governance, and accountability.Strong ability to develop sound project plans and cost budgets.

  • Ability to organize and execute on project implementation.

What knowledge would be key for this role?

  • Knowledge of critical city planning issues and trends in the City of Toronto.

  • Sensitivity and awareness in working with diverse communities.

  • Experience in management within the public or private sector.

  • A genuine passion for city-building and public art.

Who are we?

The Laneway Project is a non-profit social enterprise dedicated to bringing laneways to life. We are urban planners, designers and placemakers, and we work with public, private, and community-level stakeholders to transform laneways and other neglected public spaces into complete, living public places: building collaborative teams, creating and implementing best practices and catalyzing policy changes.  

What We Do: 

  • Work in partnership with the development and design community to create vibrant, complete public spaces.  

  • Support the City and other stakeholders in creating laneway-friendly policies and procedures.

  • Inspire, empower and support communities in undertaking their own laneway improvement projects.

Compensation:
